New York City is full of world-class restaurants, but it is equally as famous for its array of tasty and unique food carts. NYC streets are dotted with carts serving food from all kinds of cultures. Stop by for a snack while touring the city, or grab a whole meal at one of these awesome places.

SABRETT HOT DOG CARTS

Sabrett is a NYC staple – the carts with the signature blue and yellow umbrellas have been serving up hot dogs and pretzels in the Big Apple for nearly 100 years. Stop by a cart and customize your dog with sauerkraut, spicy brown mustard or Sabrett’s famous “onions in sauce.” While you’re at it, grab a warm, salty pretzel to snack on while you wander around the city. You’re sure to find one of these signature hot dogs on your trip to the Big Apple.

YOLANDA’S TAMALES

If you’ve got a taste for some authentic Mexican food and $1.50, stop by Yolanda’s Tamales. Yolanda and her homemade tamales have become a staple on the corner of 145th and Broadway. Yolanda herself stands on the corner, greeting all of her hungry guests with a smile and a warm tamale. Locals love the spicy chicken, but for that price, grab a couple to try!

THE HALAL GUYS

The Halal Guys are a true NYC success story. Starting with just one hot dog cart, The Halal Guys transformed their food offerings to meet the demand of cabbies craving halal food, and a phenomenon was born. 25 years later, and the Halal Guys have more than 200 restaurants across the world. Stop by one of a handful of New York locations to try their famous platters, topped off with their even-more-famous white sauce. Be prepared for a line, though – food this good draws in a crowd, especially around lunchtime. Check out the Halal Guys at thehalalguys.com.

VERONICA’S KITCHEN

Ready for some authentic Trinidadian food? Head to the corner of Front and Pine for Veronica’s Kitchen. Veronica moved to the U.S. around 30 years ago and started a food cart to bring authentic West Indian flavors to the people of New York City. Now her food has people lining up and down the block for a taste. New to Trinidadian flavors? We recommend the traditional jerk chicken with a side of candied yams.
